The Northeast Aquatic Connectivity Assessment was conducted to prioritize dams across the Northeast and identify those with the highest potential ecologic gains if removed. Dams were ranked according to a number of factors that would indicate the potential for improved stream health, especially for migratory fish species. Factors included the number of river miles reconnected, the portion of the floodplain that is undeveloped, and the presence of migratory fish found below the dam. This particular map shows dams prioritized by ecological factors only and does not consider other issues such as public safety, flooding or condition of the structure.
